About This Role
YMCA Little Scholars is hiring for a support staff member role in New Britain. Compensation is $16.94 – $17.45/Hr. Candidates need a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, though it is preferred rather than required.
As a dedicated support staff member, your primary responsibility is to ensure the well-being and educational success of students in various settings. You will provide individualized support, enforce school policies, and promote social skills among students.

What You'll Do
- Provide individualized support to students, either one-on-one or in small groups, to help them master assignments and reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
- Establish a safe and positive learning environment by enforcing administration policies and rules, as well as promoting social skills among students.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts and ensure a seamless learning experience.
- Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips.
- Help students develop essential life skills, such as using equipment and materials safely and effectively.
- Clean classrooms and maintain a well-organized learning environment.
- Assess student progress and maintain accurate records to inform teaching strategies.
- Plan and implement engaging activities to promote physical, mental, and social development among students.
- Assist with administrative tasks, such as taking attendance, maintaining records, and preparing materials.
- Develop and implement teaching aids, such as lesson plans, displays, and exhibits.
- Participate in staff meetings and contribute to school committees as required.
- Utilize technology to enhance presentations and support student learning.
- Grade assignments and maintain accurate records of student progress.
- Operate audio-visual equipment and maintain classroom technology.
- Distribute materials and collect completed assignments from students.
- Collect funds from students for school-related projects.

Required Skills and Qualities
- Communication: Strong verbal and written skills are needed to discuss student progress with teachers and parents.
- Flexibility: The capability to adapt quickly to changing classroom needs or unexpected situations.
- Patience and empathy are crucial for working with students of varying backgrounds and abilities.
- Organization: Ability to multitask in a busy environment and manage administrative records.
Education and Experience
- Certifications: Some roles require CPR and First Aid certification. Special education positions may require specific training, such as the Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
- Minimum Education: Most positions require at least a High School Diploma or GED. Many districts prefer an Associate's or Bachelor's degree, or at least two years of college coursework.
