Based in Storrs, this support staff member opening at Willow House Preschool & ELC pays $22 – $25/Hr and requires the appropriate background.
The Teacher is responsible for creating a cohesive teaching team, overseeing curriculum implementation, and managing daily classroom operations. A skilled Teacher must be knowledgeable about children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development, ensuring a safe and stimulating environment that fosters engagement and success. Effective communication with children and adults is essential to meet children's needs, guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns.

What You'll Do
- Develop and implement educational curriculum by creating classroom activities aligned with developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
- Lead by example and empower teaching team success through mentoring and coaching.
- Plan engaging individual and group activities to promote social, cognitive, and emotional growth in children.
- Maintain regular communication with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.
- Evaluate and ensure compliance with center policies and state regulations.
- Maintain a healthy classroom environment, adhering to hygiene, cleanliness, safety, and security standards.
- Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers, ensuring adherence to planned activities, hygiene, and safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, forms, and files.
- Develop and maintain a personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of professional child care experience is required.
- An Associate’s Degree in early childhood education or a related field is required, with a plan in place to pursue a Bachelors degree in ECE.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, as well as basic computer skills, are essential.
- A high energy level and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, children, and parents are necessary to foster a team environment.
- A thorough understanding of child development is crucial.
- Candidates must clear a full background check and pass a health screening.
- The ability to perform frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear voices at various levels is required. May also involve kneeling, bending, squatting, or crawling.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills are mandatory.
Nice to Have
- Availability to work Monday through Friday is a plus.
- First Aid/CPR, medication, and epinephrine training, or the willingness to obtain within 30 days, is desirable.
