Position Overview

In this role, our Grade 1 Teacher will create a nurturing and engaging learning environment where students feel encouraged to explore, collaborate, ask questions, and grow academically, socially, and emotionally.

Our teacher will integrate outdoor learning, hands-on experiences, and project-based investigations into daily instruction, fostering a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom.

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities:


  • Develop and lead meaningful, inquiry-based learning experiences that align with Reggio-inspired practices and spark student curiosity
  • Establish a classroom culture that values creativity, kindness, and belonging, and provides a sense of safety and support for all students
  • Incorporate outdoor learning and nature-based activities into weekly instruction and exploration, leveraging the natural world as a catalyst for learning
  • Observe, document, and reflect on students’ learning processes and development, using this information to inform instruction and make data-driven decisions
  • Support foundational literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional growth in developmentally appropriate ways, using a range of instructional strategies and materials
  • Create engaging and beautiful learning environments that inspire discovery and imagination, and foster a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues, school leadership, and families to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning community
  • Maintain open and ongoing communication with parents regarding student growth and classroom experiences, keeping them informed and engaged in their child’s education
  • Encourage student voice, independence, and collaborative problem-solving, empowering students to take ownership of their learning and develop essential life skills
  • Participate in school events, professional development, and community-building activities, demonstrating a commitment to the school community and a willingness to grow and learn alongside colleagues and students

Requirements

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field
  • Valid teaching certification/license preferred but not required
  • Experience teaching early elementary students, preferably Grades K-1-2
  • Familiarity with or strong interest in the Reggio Emilia approach
  • Passion for outdoor education, gardening, nature walks, and experiential learning
  • Strong classroom management rooted in respect and relationship-building
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Creative, reflective, and flexible mindset
