What You'll Do

As a Lead Toddler Teacher, you will be instrumental in shaping the daily experiences of our toddlers, embracing both their individuality and collective growth. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and implementing a developmentally appropriate educational curriculum, incorporating NYS Early Learning Guidelines and a constructivist approach that encourages active engagement and sensory exploration.
  • Leading a team of assistant teachers, fostering a collaborative classroom environment and ensuring adherence to all program standards and best practices.
  • Cultivating a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment that supports the cognitive, social-emotional, and physical growth of each toddler.
  • Establishing and maintaining strong, transparent communication with parents through daily updates, regular conferences, and proactive discussions about their child’s progress and experiences.
  • Ensuring compliance with all New York State Office of Children and Family Services (NYS OCFS) licensing regulations, center policies, and health and safety standards.
  • Observing, documenting, and assessing each child’s development to inform individualized learning plans and communicate progress effectively.
  • Managing classroom operations, including daily routines, transitions, and the organization of materials to promote a stimulating and orderly learning space.
  • Actively participating in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and center-wide events to contribute to continuous program improvement.

Requirements

We are looking for an individual who meets the following criteria:

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, OR at least 9 college credits in Early Childhood, Child Development, or a related field with a plan of study leading to an Infant/Toddler CDA or an Associate's Degree.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of verifiable experience working directly with children in a licensed Childcare setting, specifically with toddlers (ages 18-36 months).

State Requirements (New York):

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Successful completion of a New York State Office of Children and Family Services (NYS OCFS) background check, including fingerprinting, Statewide Central Register (SCR) clearance, and a check of the Staff Exclusion List (SEL).
  • Evidence of a recent physical examination and TB test clearance upon hire.

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Medication Administration Training Certification (MAT)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience guiding other educators.
  • Familiarity with recognized Childcare curriculum frameworks (e.g., The Creative Curriculum, ITERS).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and comfort utilizing digital communication tools for parent engagement.
