About This Role
Based in Montpelier, this support staff member opening at Turtle Island Children's Center pays $18 – $24/Hr and requires completed early childhood education (ECE) college credits.
Turtle Island Children's Center: A Year-Round Play and Nature-Based Early Childhood Program, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, serves infants through pre-Kindergarteners in a diverse, natural environment. Located along the North Branch River in Montpelier, Vermont, our early childhood program focuses on social and emotional learning, as well as wondrous intellectual development.
As a substitute teacher, you'll spend most days outdoors and work a flexible schedule. Our operating hours are 8:00-3:30.
We're seeking playful professionals with diverse levels of Early Childhood Education degrees/certifications/licenses and/or experience working with young children, infants through Pre-K.

What You'll Do

Responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:
- Create a safe, healthy environment that fosters the social, intellectual, physical, and emotional development of young children (birth to age 5), in a manner developmentally appropriate and in relationship to the overall goal of social competency.
- Collaborate with fellow teachers to ensure they're following state and program guidelines, regulations, and expectations.
- Work with the team to design and maintain a safe, responsive, and healthy physical environment that promotes the physical, emotional, and cognitive development of young children.
- Communicate effectively, professionally, and respectfully with team members, administrators, and families.
- Actively supervise and engage with children, ensuring their safety at all times.
- Maintain a clean, organized, responsive, inviting, welcoming, and safe environment for all children and families.
Requirements
Core Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of the developmental needs of children from birth to six years old; responsiveness to the intellectual, emotional, and social needs of children; ability to work with groups of children
- Flexibility to work as a team member and part of a learning community.
- Love and respect for children, teachers, and the important work of early childhood education
- At least 18 years old.
- Ability to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, pull, and carry children up to 70 pounds
- Meet annual professional development requirements, per Vermont state regulations.
- Willingness to continue professional education in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
- Current First Aid/CPR training or willingness to complete upon hire.
