Vernon Unites for Children and Families: a Local Governance Partner

Job Title:  Outreach Lead and Assistant Liaison

Compensation:  $25.00 hourly rate, part-time 12 hours/week

Early Start CT Local Governance Partners form a unified state and local system to ensure young children and families in Connecticut thrive and enter school ready to succeed.

The VUCF Outreach Lead and Assistant Liaison will work to engage and educate the community about Vernon Unites for Children and Families, assisting in achieving program goals. They will assist the Coordinator in identifying community resources and gaps, needs and concerns and facilitate community connectedness in support of children and families.

As part of a larger team, this position will work to create positive change, bridging gaps and building a stronger, more resilient community.

What You'll Do

Main Responsibilities:

Furnish leadership, support, and guidance to Parent Ambassadors.

Participate in and facilitate PA participation in required training and professional development opportunities. Alongside the PA's, conduct outreach in neighborhoods and assist PA's in raising up parent voice.

Attend community events and assist PA's in dividing and conquering the numerous opportunities Vernon offers to meet, greet, and engage families. Assist in connecting families to community resources and supports. Track and record communications and connections with parents. Assist PA's in doing the same.

Visit ESCT Programs, conducting on-site monitoring (at least twice a year). Complete reporting, including Program Status Reports, Program Summary Reports, and Desk Audits. Monitor each site's OEC Registry and ECE Reporter for accuracy and compliance. Provide TA and coaching as needed.

Anticipated Outcomes: 

Be knowledgeable about programs and services in Vernon available to families. 

Become familiar with the OEC website and all OEC resources and services for families.

Become acquainted with 211 online and how to utilize 211 to assist families in need, as well as support other community providers in meeting children and family needs.

Provide the community with information on VUCF and the program's desire to engage families and support shared leadership with families to improve access, quality, and services for children in Vernon.

Be a visible presence in the community! Attend parks, Rails to Trails, Pediatrician offices, School events, Community events - always have resources at your fingertips.

Attend all LGP meetings and other meetings designated by Liaison. 

Requirements

Qualifications:

This position necessitates strong interpersonal skills. Coursework in a related field like early childhood, social work, public health, or community development is desired along with 1-2 years of experience in outreach. 

Skills:

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with diverse populations
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport and trust with diverse populations
  • Organizational skills including the ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and maintain records
  • Problem-solving skills needed to identify and address the needs of individuals and the community  
  • Cultural Sensitivity when working with diverse populations 
  • Computer skills necessary to complete surveys, reports, create and send emails, take online training, access online resources
  • Familiarity with Vernon. Knowledge of local community resources and social service systems needed for connecting individuals with the appropriate support
  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to Handle Stress: The job can be demanding and require the ability to handle sensitive and potentially stressful situations
