What You'll Do

- Discipline children and recommend or initiate measures to control behavior such as caring for own clothing and picking up toys and books.
- Parents or guardians are informed about signs of emotional or developmental problems in children.
- Children's play activities are observed and monitored.
- Records are kept on individual children including daily observations and information about activities, meals served, and medications administered.
- Children are taught health and personal habits such as eating, resting, and toilet habits.
- Children are read to and taught simple painting, drawing, handicrafts, and songs.
- Order is maintained in activity areas by organizing and storing toys and materials.
- In-house day-care centers are operated within businesses.
- Bottles are sterilized and formulas are prepared.
- Children are dressed and diapers are changed.
- Children are assisted with homework and school work.
- Housekeeping duties such as laundry, cleaning, dish washing, and changing of linens are performed.
- Children are accompanied to and from school, on outings, and to medical appointments.
- Children are placed or hoisted into baths or pools.
- A safe play environment is maintained.
- Communication takes place with children's parents or guardians about daily activities, behaviors, and related issues.
- Children are provided with meals and refreshments and are cared for.
- Developmentally appropriate lesson plans are created.
- Children's rest periods are regulated.
- Administrative tasks such as taking attendance, editing internal paperwork, and making phone calls are performed.
- Recreational activities and outings such as games and field trips are organized and participated in.
- Care is provided for mentally disturbed, delinquent, or handicapped children.
- Personnel functions such as supervision, training, and scheduling are performed.
