The Head Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality care, supervision, and education to children in the center/classroom. They must ensure the physical and emotional well-being of each child and create a safe and engaging learning environment. The Head Teacher must also develop and implement curriculum that meets the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of each child, while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. Additionally, they are responsible for supervising and evaluating staff, managing administrative tasks, and maintaining accurate records.

 

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, parents, staff, and the community. They must be able to prioritize tasks, work independently, and be a positive contributor to the team.

What You'll Do

  • Interact with children for up to 8 hours, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans that encourage self-esteem and independence.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff, providing coaching, motivation, and development opportunities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Hire, train, and terminate staff, as approved by management and HR.
  • Ensure a stimulating and safe classroom environment and playground area.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with children, parents, staff, and the community.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to achieve program goals and objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records and data, including lesson plans, child observations, and family conferences.
  • Develop and implement a curriculum that meets the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of each child.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including NAEYC standards.
  • Participate in professional development and training to improve skills and knowledge.
  • Adhere to TVCCA policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in ECE or related field with 12 credits in Early Childhood Education

 OR

  • Associate's Degree in ECE or related field with 12 credits in Early Childhood Education

AND

  • Have access to reliable, insured transportation.
  • Must have or obtain and maintain CT child care first-aid, and infant and child CPR, and medication administration certification.
  • Provide a TVCCA Staff Statement of Good Health signed by a physician, physician's assistant, or nurse practitioner completed within twelve (12) months before the date of employment, and every twenty-four (24) months for current staff. 
  • Provide a written report of negative tuberculin test completed within twelve (12) months prior to the date of employment, or for a known prior reactor, no evidence of active tuberculosis on a chest x-ray.
  • Must be able to lift and/or carry a child up to 50lbs.
  • Have the credentials to obtain a Connecticut Head Teacher License from the Department of Public Health.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • Be able to work 35-37 hours/week, 52 weeks/year.
  • The TVCCA Little Learners Early Education Program requires staff to be available from 7:00AM - 5:00PM to cover center operational hours on a rotational basis.
  • Continue professional development per funding source requirements.
  • Strong Computer and ability to effectively communicate with children, parents, staff and volunteers
