About This Role
This support staff member position at Teachable Moments Preschool in Lynchburg offers $14 – $15/Hr. The role requires a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, though it is preferred rather than required.
The Assistant Teacher will support the Lead Teacher in delivering high-quality educational experiences for young children. This includes modeling excellent behavior, providing feedback, and contributing to a positive and inclusive learning environment.

What You'll Do
- Support the Lead Teacher in planning and implementing daily activities, which foster growth in emotional, social, cognitive, and physical development.
- Establish positive relationships with each child, acknowledging and respecting their individual needs, cultural background, and learning style.
- Encourage creativity, problem-solving, and self-respect in children.
- Supervise the classroom when the Lead Teacher is absent.
- Assist with meal preparation and snack times.
- Participate in staff meetings and professional development programs.
- Report maintenance needs, equipment repairs, and supply requests to the Lead Teacher.
- Perform daily tasks for the efficient operation of the preschool, including greeting families and children.
- Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to maintain a clean and organized classroom.
- Foster a positive working relationship among staff members.
- Protect preschool confidentiality and maintain security of sensitive information.
- Build strong relationships with children, families, staff, and community partners.
- Stay updated on CPR and First Aid procedures.
- Model professional conduct, including confidentiality, best practices, and quality service to children and families.
- Attend professional development seminars and conferences to stay current on industry developments.
- Share knowledge and skills gained from trainings with colleagues through workshops, articles, and staff meetings.
- Complete additional duties assigned by the Lead Teacher related to the job description.
Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Must be willing to receive professional development training in early childhood education
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work independently and follow through on tasks
- Familiarity with general technology and computer equipment
- Passion for working with children and making a daily difference
- CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain
- Must meet state-specific guidelines for the role
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds and work in various environments
- Must pass a comprehensive background check
Nice to Have
A background in Early Childhood Education or experience working with children is beneficial but not required.
