About This Role
Based in Phoenix, this support staff member opening at Shadow Rock Congregational Church - UCC pays $15.75 – $16.25/Hr and requires no formal early childhood credentials to start.
The Assistant Teacher supports the Lead Teacher by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. S/he must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the Lead Teacher in implementing a quality, play-based program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents. The Assistant Teacher is responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher to implement developmentally appropriate, experiential activities based on children’s interests and needs under the policies of Shadow Rock Preschool.

What You'll Do
- Supervise students in classrooms, halls, playground, and bathrooms.
- Assist children individually or in small groups to help reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
- Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
- Teach social skills to students.
- Diaper children as needed.
- Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
- Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions and progress reports.
- Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to preschool.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage.
- Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
- Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using art, hands-on experiences and reading aloud.
- Clean classrooms.
- Observe students' performance, and record relevant data to assess progress.
- Organize and label materials and display students' work in a manner appropriate for their eye levels and perceptual skills.
- Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.
- Attend staff meetings and attend family nights, as required.
- Conduct demonstrations to teach skills, such as sports, dancing, and handicrafts..
- Take class attendance.
- Participate in teacher-parent conferences regarding students' progress or problems.
- Plan, prepare, and develop various teaching aids.
Requirements
- Professional child care experience a plus.
- Minimum of high school diploma.
- Reliable and on time.
- High energy.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
- A strong understanding of child development.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification a plus.
- Current food handler’s card a plus
- Current fingerprint clearance card a plus
- Must clear full background check.
- Must pass health screening.
- Able to lift 25 pounds.
