The ECEAP Float Teacher ensures seamless support across multiple classrooms, fostering continuity and excellence in early learning services. In the absence of regular teachers, the Float Teacher assumes responsibility for curriculum implementation, child supervision, family engagement, and compliance with ECEAP Performance Standards and state regulations. This role is crucial in maintaining a safe, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate environment that promotes school readiness and positive child outcomes.

What You'll Do
Classroom Instruction & Support
- Adapt to varying teaching styles and routines in multiple classrooms, providing instructional support as needed
- Collaborate with teachers to plan and implement culturally responsive, developmentally appropriate curriculum
- Engage children in meaningful, play-based learning experiences that cater to their diverse needs
- Support individualized instruction and accommodations for children with unique requirements
Child Supervision & Guidance
- Maintain constant supervision of children, both indoors and outdoors, ensuring their safety and well-being
- Implement positive guidance strategies aligned with program policies, promoting healthy child development
- Support daily routines, including meals, transitions, hygiene, and rest time, to maintain a sense of structure and security
Assessment & Documentation
- Assist with child observations, documentation, and preparation of assessment materials as directed by the program
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with ECEAP and organizational requirements, ensuring data integrity and compliance
- Support classroom teams in meeting assessment timelines when providing coverage, ensuring seamless transitions and minimizing disruptions
Family Engagement
- Build genuine, respectful relationships with families in each classroom, fostering open communication and trust
- Assist with family communication, conferences, and events as assigned, promoting a sense of community and inclusivity
- Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions, maintaining the trust and respect of families and colleagues alike
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Consistently follow all health, safety, and emergency procedures, prioritizing the well-being of children and staff
- Support sanitation, cleaning schedules, and licensing compliance, ensuring a clean and safe environment for everyone
- Ensure adherence to ECEAP Performance Standards and organizational policies, maintaining the highest standards of quality and excellence
Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with Lead Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Aides, and interdisciplinary staff to achieve common goals and objectives
- Adapt quickly to changing assignments and classroom needs, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to learn
- Participate in required trainings, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities, enhancing knowledge and skills to better serve children and families
Requirements
- Early Childhood Education coursework meeting ECEAP Assistant Teacher requirements (e.g., Initial ECE Certificate, equivalent credits, or willingness to complete required coursework within timelines)
- Experience working with preschool-aged children in an early learning or childcare setting
- Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practice
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow program policies
- Flexibility to work in multiple classrooms and adapt to varying routines
Certifications:
- First aid and CPR certification
- Blood Borne Pathogens
- Mandated Reporter
- Current TB test
- DCYF Background Check
Nice to Have
- Associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or a related field
- Experience in ECEAP, Head Start, or other state-funded preschool programs
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities
- Familiarity with Creative Curriculum, Teaching Strategies GOLD, or similar systems
