As an Assistant Teacher, you'll work closely with our Lead Teachers to create a supportive and engaging environment for our children. You'll have the chance to build meaningful relationships with our families and help them achieve their goals. We're looking for someone who is passionate about early childhood education, has excellent communication skills, and is able to work collaboratively as part of a team.

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality care and education to our children, following our philosophy of child-centered learning and Developmentally Appropriate Practices.
  • Build strong relationships with each child by engaging in meaningful conversations and activities.
  • Support the Lead Teachers in preparing and implementing engaging lesson plans and activities.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and families to ensure they are informed and involved in their child's learning.
  • Assist with classroom setup and cleanup, including preparing snacks and meals.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment by tidying up and using cleaning supplies as needed.
  • Support children with basic hygiene needs, such as handwashing and potty-training.
  • Participate in professional development and training opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the needs of our children and families.

Working Conditions

  • This role requires the ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • You will work with cleaning chemicals and use a mop and broom.
  • This position involves prolonged standing, moving up and down from the floor, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be willing to undergo CPR and first aid training.
  • Must be willing to undergo a criminal background check and drug screen.
  • Must be willing to undergo a physical and TB test.

Nice to Have

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some degree progress in a Child Development Associate (CDA) or Early Learning degree is a plus.
  • Experience working in a preschool teaching setting is highly valued.
  • A collaborative team player with a strong work ethic.
  • Someone who is eager to learn and receive guidance and mentorship in the classroom.
  • A strong alignment with our philosophy and a desire to pursue a career in early learning.

About New Hope for Families

New Hope for Families provides shelter and early learning programs that keep families together and lift children into a promising future. Our Early Learning Center has four classrooms, Infants, Ones, Twos and a PreK. We can enroll up to forty-eight children and half of our enrollment is reserved for children who have experienced homelessness. The New Hope ELC is a Paths To Quality Level 3 school, and is pursuing Level 4and national accreditation.
