Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church Preschool is seeking a warm, nurturing, and dependable Assistant Teacher to join our joyful, play-based preschool community.

Position Details:
- Part-time hours: 9:00 AM–1:00 PM, following the FCPS calendar
- Opportunities to extend your day until 4:00 PM
- Hourly rate: $16–$19, depending on experience and qualifications
As an Assistant Teacher, you will work alongside lead teachers to create a safe, engaging, and joyful classroom environment where children feel loved, curious, and confident. Our program emphasizes hands-on, play-based learning, social-emotional development, and plenty of time outdoors.

What You'll Do
- Support the lead teacher in daily classroom activities and routines
- Help create a positive, caring, and well-managed classroom environment
- Engage with children through play, conversation, and guided activities
- Assist with transitions, snack/lunch, and outdoor time
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom
- Communicate warmly and professionally with staff and families
Requirements
- A genuine love for working with young children
- Reliability and a strong sense of teamwork
- Warmth, patience and a positive attitude
- Patience and empathy in working with young children
- Creativity and the ability to engage children in learning activities
- Previous experience in preschool, child care, or early childhood setting, preferred but not required.
Nice to Have
- Coursework or degree in Early Childhood Education
- Experience as a child care worker, preschool aide or assistant teacher
- First Aid / CPR training
