What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities – Floater at MCA

• Provide support in various classrooms as needed throughout the day.
• Help teachers maintain active supervision by positioning yourself to ensure children can be seen and heard during indoor and outdoor play, meals, nap time, bathroom routines, and transitions.
• Support teachers in implementing daily classroom routines and schedules.
• Assist children with self-help skills such as handwashing, toileting, and diapering as needed.
• Help set up, serve, and clean up during meal and snack time, ensuring proper sanitation.
• Contribute to maintaining a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment.
• Sanitize toys, tables, chairs, and classroom materials as directed.
• Engage with children through play, conversations, and encouragement to promote positive interactions.
• Assist with classroom transitions, including moving children between the playground, bathroom, meals, nap, or dismissal.
• Provide coverage when teachers require breaks, planning time, or assistance.
• Adhere to all MCA policies, classroom procedures, and North Carolina child care rules.
• Communicate respectfully and professionally with teachers, children, families, and administration.
• Immediately report any safety concerns, behavior issues, injuries, or unusual observations to the lead teacher or director.
• Avoid personal phone use and personal conversations while supervising children.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.

Requirements

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

• Ability to supervise and engage children of different ages.
• Previous experience working with children in a licensed child care center, school, or similar setting preferred.
• Basic understanding of child development, classroom routines, and safe supervision practices preferred.
• Ability to follow directions from lead teachers and administration.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Dependable, flexible, patient, and willing to assist wherever needed.
• Must clear a full background check.
• Must pass health screening.

Other Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or GED minimum.

Physical: Ability to lift up to 30 pounds, stand for long periods, sit on the floor with children, bend, kneel, walk with children indoors and outdoors, and move as the position requires.

Schedule: Must be flexible and able to assist in different classrooms as needed.

• Previous experience working as a childcare floater, teacher assistant, or classroom aide.
• NC Early Childhood Credentials or coursework in Early Childhood Education.
• Current Infant/Child CPR and First Aid certification.
• Experience working with toddlers, preschoolers, and Pre-K children.
• Familiarity with licensed child care classroom routines, sanitation, and supervision expectations.
• Ability to assist with classroom activities, art projects, music, story time, and outdoor play.
• Comfortable assisting with diapering, toileting, handwashing, meals, and nap routines.
• Experience using child care communication or sign-in systems such as Lillio or SmartCare.
• Bilingual abilities, especially English and Spanish.
• Positive attitude, flexibility, and a willingness to help wherever needed.
• Reliable transportation and consistent attendance.
