This support staff member position at Let's Grow Outside NH- The Amherst Preschool, Joppa Farm and Forest School, Ponemah Forest School in Amherst offers $23 – $28/Hr. The role requires completed early childhood education (ECE) college credits.
We're seeking a collaborative and nurturing Assistant Teacher to join our Reggio Emilia–inspired early childhood program at The Amherst Preschool. The Assistant Teacher will work closely with Lead Teachers to create a supportive classroom environment that fosters curiosity and creativity. Our program is deeply rooted in nature, with children spending many hours outdoors each day, year-round. Together, the teaching team will design experiences that encourage collaboration, confidence, and a love of learning.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with Lead Teachers to create Reggio-inspired learning environments that promote curiosity and creativity
- Prepare materials and provocations that invite exploration and discovery
- Spend extended periods outdoors in all seasons, regardless of weather conditions
- Observe and document children's learning through play-based activities
- Support children in navigating social relationships and emotional growth
- Ensure children can explore risk safely in outdoor play environments
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment that supports learning and exploration
- Assist with basic first aid needs and follow school protocols
- Adhere to school licensing requirements and staff protocols
- Participate in 12 hours of annual professional development to enhance teaching skills
Requirements
- CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it through school training
- Must qualify as an Associate Teacher under NH CCLU licensing requirements
- Experience in early childhood education or outdoor education
- Interest in Reggio-inspired teaching and reflective practice
- Comfortable spending multiple hours outside in all weather conditions
Nice to Have
- Personal or professional experience in the outdoors that enhances outdoor education and nature-based learning
- Lead Teacher certification that provides advanced teaching expertise

Let’s Grow Outside NH is a network of three Reggio-inspired forest schools in Southern New Hampshire dedicated to honoring childhood through nature, play, inquiry, and meaningful relationships.
The Amherst Preschool opened in 2009 and provides children with enriching, child-led experiences on a beautiful 23-acre campus. The school offers a full-time, year-round program designed for working families who value outdoor exploration, creativity, and unstructured play as essential parts of childhood.
Joppa Farm and Forest School opened in 2020 on the campus of Joppa Hill Educational Farm in Bedford. JFFS offers part-time, multi-age programming for children ages 3–5. Children spend their days exploring 190 acres of forests, fields, and fairy houses while building meaningful connections to the natural world and the farm community around them.
Ponemah Forest School will open in Fall 2026 at Hampshire Hills in Milford. Ponemah will offer part-time preschool and kindergarten programming that prioritizes outdoor play, exploration, and connection to nature. Children will also engage in enriching indoor experiences within thoughtfully curated environments designed to inspire inquiry, discovery, creativity, and joy.
