What You'll Do
- Ensure the safety and well-being of children at all times, being vigilant for their individual and collective needs and concerns
- Maintain a clean, healthy, and safe environment for children; contribute equally to keeping the classroom, storage rooms, and bathroom clean and organized
- Plan activities to meet the needs of assigned classes, collaborating with a team teacher if necessary, and provide monthly and weekly lesson plans
- Implement the daily program/activities with the assistance of a team teacher or aide, if applicable
- Create an inviting and welcoming space for children and families through the use of bulletin boards, diverse pictures, and children's artwork
- Model positive verbal and non-verbal communication for children at all times, sitting with them during meals and snacks, and encouraging good manners and conversation skills
- Conduct individual conferences with parents of each child at least twice a year
- Complete 25 hours of continuing education per year, with 20 hours focused on classroom activities, to comply with NAC's requirements; share your experiences and insights with staff
- Make observations of children's development and create individualized goals for each child, providing a comprehensive portfolio to parents at transition time
- Contribute to the monthly Parent Newsletter
- Fill out Accident/Incident reports as needed and record them in the log book
- Attend monthly staff meetings and Family involvement events
- Supervise, mentor, and train Assistant Childcare Teachers
- Keep the Director informed of program needs in advance
- Report to the Director any special needs or problems of individual children
- Uphold confidentiality standards for children and families
- Report cases of suspected child abuse or neglect to Dane County Child Protective Services and the Director
- Handle discipline promptly, in accordance with stated center policy on discipline
- Purchase or charge minor supplies, being reimbursed by the Director upon furnishing receipts
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Your initial Registry certificate, CPR, and other trainings will be covered at the employer's expense, unless you leave employment within two years; in this case, you will be responsible for reimbursing the employer for these fees.
Requirements
- 80 days/120 half-days experience in a licensed child care program; teaching license or necessary courses; Registry Certificate
- Be familiar with and follow all Koala-T-Kare policies and NAC standards; read the licensing requirements of the State
- Ability to lift 40 lb. water jugs and children 20-30 pounds on a regular basis
