Based in Fort Pierce, this support staff member opening at Kids in the City Academy pays $15 – $17/Hr and requires the appropriate background.
Kids in the City Academy is dedicated to providing a supportive, engaging, and safe environment for 2 and 3 year olds to learn and grow. Our program focuses on nurturing each child's social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and language development.
The ideal candidate will have experience leading lesson planning, supervising team members, assessing child progress, collaborating with families, ensuring compliance with Florida’s standards, and maintaining a learning environment that supports every child's growth and development.
This full-time role requires a 40 hour work week, with opportunities for professional development and collaboration with our team.

What You'll Do
- Develop engaging lesson plans and activities that promote children’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development in accordance with Florida Standards.
- Design and implement a daily schedule that balances learning and play, ensuring a safe and well-organized classroom environment.
- Supervise and mentor assistant teachers in the classroom, providing guidance and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality instruction.
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident/accident reports, and developmental assessments, to track each child’s progress and inform instruction.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about their child’s progress, participate in parent-teacher conferences, and respond to parent questions and concerns.
- Ensure compliance with state licensing, program requirements, health & safety regulations, and other relevant policies.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training to stay current on best practices in early childhood education.
- Collaborate with center leadership and other teachers to support overall program quality, including contributions to enrollment, retention, and center goals.
- Participate in assessments and evaluations to inform instruction and improve program quality.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with families and the community to support the learning and growth of our children.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to pass state background checks and meet licensing requirements.
- Minimum of 1 year in childcare space, preferably in a toddler room.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, creativity, flexibility, and a nurturing disposition.
- Florida's teacher credential requirements (this may include VPK Certification, DCF 45-Hour training, or equivalent).
- Previous experience teaching preschool or VPK, with demonstrated experience leading a classroom.
- Strong knowledge of child development principles and Florida standards.
- Demonstrated leadership experience (mentoring, supervising staff).
- Ability to move around the classroom frequently, assist with children, sit/kneel/squat.
- Ability to lift and carry children or materials (up to regulatory limits).
- Stand for extended periods; interact actively in play and learning.
Nice to Have
- Experience with assessment tools, including observational assessments and progress tracking, to inform instruction and improve program quality.
- Bilingual skills, which would be an asset in our diverse community.
