About This Role
Based in Fort Pierce, this support staff member opening at Kids in the City Academy pays $14 – $16/Hr and requires the appropriate background.
The Kids in the City Academy is committed to providing a nurturing environment that supports the social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and language development of our children from infants to 4 years old.
In this role, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing a high-quality classroom environment that promotes learning and growth. This involves leading lesson planning, supervising assistant teachers or aides, assessing child progress, collaborating with families, ensuring compliance with Florida’s standards, and maintaining a safe and organized learning environment.
This role requires a teacher with experience in classroom management, as the classroom may present significant instructional and behavioral challenges. Experience in working with young children, preferably in a toddler room, is a plus.
Schedule: 3:30-6:15 PM (2-3 times a week)

What You'll Do
- Develop a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with Florida Standards and meets the needs of our children from infants to 4 years old.
- Design and implement engaging lesson plans, daily schedules, and classroom activities that promote social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development.
- Lead and mentor assistant teachers or aides in the classroom, providing guidance, support, and direction to ensure a cohesive and effective team.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom environment that supports learning and growth, with developmentally appropriate learning centers and materials.
- Regularly observe, assess, and document each child’s progress, identifying milestones, learning needs, and providing interventions as needed.
- Communicate regularly with parents or guardians about their child’s progress, participate in parent-teacher conferences, and respond to parent questions or concerns.
- Ensure compliance with all state licensing, program requirements, health & safety regulations, and maintain accurate records.
- Stay up-to-date on best practices in early childhood education by participating in staff meetings, professional development, workshops, and training.
- Collaborate with center leadership and other teachers to support overall program quality, including contributions to enrollment, retention, and center goals.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Ability to pass state background checks and meet licensing requirements.
- Ability to move around the classroom frequently, assist with children, sit/kneel/squat.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Minimum of 1 year in childcare space preferably in a toddler room.
- Florida's teacher credential requirements (this may include VPK Certification, DCF 45-Hour training, or equivalent).
- Previous experience teaching preschool or VPK, with demonstrated experience leading a classroom.
- Patience, creativity, flexibility, and a nurturing disposition.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Stand for extended periods; interact actively in play and learning.
- Ability to lift and carry children or materials (up to regulatory limits).
- Strong knowledge of child development principles and Florida standards.
- Demonstrated leadership experience (mentoring, supervising staff).
Nice to Have
- Experience with assessment tools (observational assessments, screening, progress tracking).
- Bilingual skills (preferred).
