What You'll Do
Supporting Lead Teachers / Classroom Support
- Assist Lead Teachers in planning and implementing daily lesson plans, learning activities, and curriculum that cater to the diverse needs of our students.
- Support the execution of lesson plans by preparing and organizing classroom materials, learning centers, and educational tools, including robotics and technology.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Collaborate with Lead Teachers to create and implement classroom routines, structure, and age-appropriate guidance that promote student engagement and learning.
Classroom Supervision and Child Care
- Provide active supervision of students during indoor and outdoor activities, meals, rest time, and transitions to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Implement effective supervision strategies that adhere to VDOE ratio and safety standards, and maintain constant visual and auditory supervision at all times.
- Support the supervision of students under the direction of a Lead Teacher or qualified supervisory staff, and adhere to KALE's policies and VDOE regulations.
- Assist with daily health screenings, diapering, toileting, handwashing, feeding, and personal care needs for students in accordance with KALE's policies and VDOE guidelines.
Maintaining Safety, Cleanliness, and Learning Environment
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom by following daily cleaning and sanitization procedures that adhere to KALE's standards and VDOE regulations.
- Execute daily sanitization protocols and safe food-handling practices to ensure the health and well-being of students and staff.
- Support the maintenance of a positive and inclusive learning environment by organizing learning centers, storing, charging, and handling educational tools, and adhering to KALE's aesthetic standards.
- Adhere to all center safety procedures, including headcounts, sign-in/out protocols, playground safety practices, and emergency procedures, to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Instructional Assistance / Whole-Child Support
- Support small-group and one-on-one learning experiences under the direction of Lead Teachers, promoting individualized instruction and student engagement.
- Assist students with literacy, math readiness, arts, social-emotional learning, STE(AI)M, robotics exposure, sensory play, and hands-on discovery activities that cater to their diverse needs and interests.
- Develop and implement positive behavior supports and de-escalation strategies to promote student well-being and engagement.
- Reinforce KALE's whole-child approach by encouraging curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, and kind peer interactions among students.
Communication, Documentation, and Professional Conduct
- Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, administration, and parents, ensuring a positive and inclusive school community.
- Follow established lines of authority and escalate concerns through Lead Teachers, Assistant Director, or Director as appropriate, promoting a culture of collaboration and respect.
- Assist with classroom documentation, child observations, and daily records as directed, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission in accordance with KALE and VDOE requirements.
- Support family communication through Brightwheel or approved platforms, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to KALE's policies and VDOE regulations.
Requirements
- Ability to use center-issued technology for documentation and communication
- Ability to work collaboratively within a teaching team
- Ability to lift up to forty (40) pounds and engage in active supervision
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to respond quickly to emergencies
