Position Summary
Kids Academy of Learning & Excellence is seeking an energetic and creative individual to support our school-age scholars during aftercare, school breaks, and summer camp programming.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, creating fun hands-on projects, leading group activities, and helping children feel safe, engaged, and excited to learn.
We are looking for a teacher who can bring energy, structure, creativity, and strong classroom management to our school-age program.
The right candidate should be able to lead cool projects that children actually enjoy — including STEM activities, robotics, art, building challenges, science experiments, cooking projects, outdoor games, creative writing, entrepreneurship activities, and team-based challenges.

Kids Academy of Learning & Excellence is a licensed child day center in North Chesterfield, Virginia, serving children ages 6 weeks through 12 years old.
We provide safe, structured, and nurturing care with a focus on early academics, STE(AI)M, robotics, character development, school readiness, and whole-child growth.
Our school-age and summer camp programs are designed to give children a safe place to learn, explore, build friendships, create, and grow.

What You'll Do
Key Responsibilities
The Aftercare / Summer Camp Teacher will:
- Provide a safe, positive, and structured environment for school-age children.
- Plan and lead engaging daily activities, projects, and enrichment experiences that are fun, age-appropriate, and educational.
- Support children with homework, reading, quiet time, and structured transitions during the school year.
- Lead summer camp activities such as STEM projects, arts and crafts, robotics, sports, games, water play, themed weeks, and group challenges that are memorable and engaging.
- Maintain active supervision at all times, including indoors, outdoors, during transitions, and during field-trip-style activities when applicable.
- Build positive relationships with children, families, and staff, and help children practice kindness, respect, responsibility, teamwork, and problem-solving.
- Manage behavior using positive guidance and clear expectations, and assist with snack/mealtime routines, clean-up, and classroom organization.
- Keep activity areas clean, safe, organized, and ready for children, and communicate child updates, concerns, incidents, or needs to the Director or Program Lead.
- Follow all center policies, licensing requirements, safety procedures, and emergency protocols.
Requirements
Qualifications
Preferred candidates should have:
- Experience working with school-age children in a childcare, camp, school, tutoring, recreation, or youth program setting.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Creativity and willingness to plan fun, meaningful activities.
- Ability to supervise multiple children at once with confidence and calmness.
- Dependability, professionalism, and strong communication skills.
- Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to follow child care safety and licensing requirements.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.
- Must meet all background check and child care employment requirements.

Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to:
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout the day.
- Supervise children indoors and outdoors, and maintain visual and auditory supervision at all times.
- Lift or carry classroom materials and supplies as needed.
- Participate in active games, projects, and child-centered activities.
