This support staff member position at Gateway Montessori School in Longmont offers $20 – $21/Hr. The role requires no formal early childhood credentials to start.

This position requires someone who is loving, friendly and quiet of voice and body movements. The Assistant Early Childhood Teacher should have a State of Colorado Early Childhood Professional Credential or be willing to work towards this credential. This position requires someone willing to continue to increase their knowledge and understanding of the Montessori Method as well as being willing to take direction from the Lead Teacher and work with the other adults in the classroom.

What You'll Do

Hours 7:30am 1:30pm Monday through Friday

  • Participate in the preparation and maintenance of a clean, beautiful environment in the mixed age classroom in which the furnishings and materials are complete, clean, and correspond to the needs of the entire group. 
  • Assist in maintaining current accurate academic records, for all children using Transparent Classroom. 
  • Be responsible as directed by the Lead Teacher for the safety and physical/emotional well-being of the children at all times. 
  • Protect the privacy and working atmosphere of children and staff at all times.
  • Guide students in learning and understanding via means of the Montessori Method. Also, participate in development and implementation of adult (parent) orientation courses/presentations as requested.
  • Assist with toileting and/or diapering.
  • Demonstrate familiarity and compliance with all state regulations and with school policies as outlined in the Staff and Parent Handbooks.
  • Attend all staff meetings, parent education nights, school picnics, parent-child nights at school and teacher in-service days.
  • Participate in state mandated professional development each year and enter all documentation into Professional Development Information System (PDIS) file so that it remains current and up to date. 
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Patience, curiosity, and the ability to quietly observe. 
  • Experience working with young children.  

A Love of Learning, other human beings and the earth.

 

Willingness to work Monday-Friday for 30 hours a week on a set schedule.  


Early Childhood Preschool (ECT) qualified or working toward that goal.

Nice to Have

    A degree in Early Childhood education, any Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree are preferred.

  • The following classes are required to be completed before you can work with children in the classroom. All classes can be found on the Professional Development Information System (PDIS) website free of charge. These will need to be completed before you work with children, but can be completed after you are hired.

o   Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response; 

o   Prevention of Shaken Baby Syndrome and Abusive Head Trauma; 

o   Recognition & Reporting of Child Abuse & Neglect; 

o   Standard Precautions; 

o   Introduction to CPR & First Aid Training;

o   Intro to Early Intervention and Preschool Special Education;

o   Recognizing the impact of Bias.

We have a warm supportive staff who works as a team.


We are closed for a week at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks in December, a week for spring break and a week between the School year and summer and almost week between summer and the new school year.


There is paid sick leave.


We have multiple teacher work days each year as well as teacher planning time, so you have compensated time to prepare your classroom.
