About This Role

Flora and Fauna Learning Center SPC is hiring for a support staff member role in Spokane. Compensation is $18 – $21/Hr. Candidates need a willingness to earn a CDA, with full program support provided.


This is an exciting seasonal opportunity to join our teaching team and share your passion for quality Early Childhood Education with children in a nature-immersive environment. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, nurturing, and creative, with a love for the outdoors, experiential learning, and learning through play.


We're looking for a team player with experience working with young children in a group setting, who can provide individualized care while monitoring a group of children, and is comfortable spending time outdoors rain or shine.

What You'll Do

This role involves leading a group of 10-20 children in a fun and educational environment. The key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining a safe and engaging environment, both indoors and outdoors, through effective supervision and planning
  • Transitioning children seamlessly between activities, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all
  • Developing and implementing a curriculum that meets the needs of the group and builds on developmental goals, with a focus on nature-based learning
  • Ensuring the health and safety of the children through regular wellness checks and maintaining a clean and hygienic environment
  • Communicating effectively with the teaching team to share ideas, needs, and goals

Requirements

  • Proof of Negative TB Testing (per WAC 170-295-1120)
  • Current CPR & 1st Aid - certification includes pediatric and adult (per WAC 170-295-1100)
  • Bloodborne Pathogens/HIV Training (per WAC 170-295-1110)
  • The Department of Children, Youth, and Families' Child Care Basics
  • Current "Portable Background Check" from WA State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF)
  • An up-to-date Merit Account
  • The ability to multitask, assess children's needs & prioritize these needs as appropriate
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with the students, families, public, supervisors and co-workers 
  • Must be healthy and have the stamina for a full day OUTDOORS with children

Nice to Have

  • Early Childhood Degree (CDA or higher) or enrollment in a program (not necessary for Summer Program)
  • Experience with Google Workspace
  • Curriculum Development expertise
  • Outdoor Schooling experience
  • Gardening expertise

Benefits

✓ 5% one time hourly raise after one year of employment to contribute towards a Health Savings Account to be set up independent of employer ✓ 40 hours maximum of vacation pay at current state minimum wage after one year of employment and each year thereafter (accrued at a rate of 1 hour per 40 hours worked) ✓ Unused paid vacation time can be paid out in the last paycheck of each year each year after two years of employment (paid December 15th) OR accrued to a max amount of 80 hours ✓ Vacation pay can be cashed out upon Parental Leave after two years of employment and each year thereafter ✓ Paid Holiday Time per WCC subsidy payment for the following days (if we are closed) after one year of employment and each year thereafter paid for 8 hours at current wage. ✓ Each employee is assigned 3 unpaid Personal Days per year - unpaid personal days expire at the end of each year with no option to accrue ✓ Accrued Sick Pay per Washington State Guidelines (1 hour per 40 hours worked)
