The Lead Teacher will oversee and direct classroom activities, creating a supportive and engaging environment that fosters the individual growth and development of young children in care. What You'll Do
Our ideal candidate will be responsible for the following classroom duties:
- Design and implement a range of stimulating activities that cater to the diverse needs and abilities of each child, promoting their cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development.
- Submit detailed lesson plans to the supervising teacher for review, ensuring transparency and accountability, and make them accessible to parents and families.
- Provide personalized attention to each child's unique needs and requirements.
- Accurately complete and maintain various reports, records, and paperwork as required by the center and state regulations.
- Ensure adherence to OCFS regulations and standards.
- Establish and maintain a safe, welcoming, and well-organized physical environment that meets the necessary standards.
- Model positive discipline and prohibit corporal punishment, promoting a culture of respect and understanding.
- Administer first aid and follow universal precautions when necessary.
- Maintain continuous professional development by completing the required 30 hours of training within each 2-year licensure period.
Requirements
- Able to lift 50 lbs. and walk 2 miles unassisted
- Cleared through NYS OCFS
- TB and Physical (must be within a year of hire)
- An associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
- MUST HAVE Childcare Experience (at least 2 years)
Nice to Have
MAT Certification is a highly valued asset in this role, as is the ability to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification.

About Cortland Child Development Program
History
The Cortland Child Development Day Care Program began operation in 1974 to provide early care and education for the children of parents who work or attend school.
We are a not-for-profit agency, licensed by the State of New York. Our Programs are available to infants through preschoolers and children needing school-age recreational care on a year-round basis, open many of the days our public schools are closed. Enrollment priority is given to children with special challenges.
