The HSB Coach is a key position that offers resources, training, and practice-based coaching to childcare providers in licensed facilities to support pro-social classroom environments and effective strategies for addressing challenging behaviors in young children.

The focus is on strengthening classroom support related to social-emotional development and reducing expulsions from childcare programs through coaching, professional development, and collaborative intervention.

This is a remote, full-time exempt opportunity supporting positions across Eastern, Central, and Western North Carolina. The role reports to the HSB Statewide Program Directors and Project Coaching Manager. Candidates must reside in North Carolina to be considered.

What You'll Do

  • Visiting childcare facilities in assigned areas to mentor and assist teachers and directors in promoting healthy social-emotional development, ensuring that they have the tools and resources needed to create a supportive environment for young children.
  • Delivering professional development and training on social-emotional development and challenging behaviors using the HSB standardized training menu, providing opportunities for childcare providers to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Maintaining and updating community resource lists of social-emotional practitioners, educators, behavioral specialists, and mental health professionals available to support childcare providers, ensuring that they have access to the resources they need to support children's social-emotional development.
  • Cultivating partnerships with behavioral specialists, consultants, educators, and mental health professionals to strengthen resources for childcare providers, providing a network of support for childcare providers to draw upon.
  • Promoting awareness of Healthy Social Behaviors Initiative resources among childcare providers and intermediary agencies, ensuring that they are aware of the resources available to support children's social-emotional development.
  • Collaborating with the statewide Healthy Social Behaviors Initiative team and across North Carolina's early care and education system to support project goals and evaluation outcomes, ensuring that the project is meeting its objectives and making a positive impact on children's social-emotional development.
  • Participating in project meetings, regional team meetings, community LICC meetings, foundational training, professional development opportunities, and special projects as directed, staying up-to-date on the latest research and best practices in the field.
  • Supporting project evaluation through data collection and timely completion of weekly data entry, ensuring that the project is accurately tracking its progress and outcomes.
  • Participating in regular one-on-one meetings with the Project Coaching Manager and/or Program Director, ensuring that they are receiving the support and guidance they need to perform their duties effectively.
  • Ensuring timely and appropriate internal and external communication, maintaining a positive and professional reputation for the organization.
  • Maintaining confidentiality while advocating for children and families in support of agency goals, upholding the organization's values and principles.

Requirements

  • EEC Level 11 recommended
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with preschool children, families, or programs serving young children
  • Teaching and/or administrative experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, Child Development, Child Psychology, or Social Work
  • TAE and PDE required within one year of hire if not already obtained

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of family, infants, childcare, and preschool environment rating scales
  • Experience with the Pyramid Model and practice-based coaching strongly preferred
  • Detail-oriented with strong deadline management skills
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities
  • Advanced computer proficiency, including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office, and Zoom
  • Familiarity with laws and regulations governing childcare centers
